The punishment for driving without insurance in Florida is the suspension of your driver’s license, your registration and your car license plate for up to 3 years. or when you purchase a new insurance policy, whichever comes first.

During the time of suspension, you will not be able to get a temporary or restricted license, even to drive to work. After the first suspension, you will pay a $150 to get your driver’s license reinstated. If your license lapses a second time for not having insurance, your policy will cost you $250. After a third lapse within three years, reinstatement will cost $500.

Drivers in Florida pay an average of $900 per year to maintain the minimum amount of car insurance coverage. That’s nothing compared to the consequences of driving without insurance, especially if you get into an accident.
